Rapala Original Floater F03
Rapala
The wounded-minnow that started arguments in more Minnesota tackle boxes than we can count. Twitch it, drown it, or just believe in it.

Big Floyd, north of Detroit Lakes. Becker County walleye water that is still getting a July tornado picked out of the swim zone.

Johnson
The original weedless wonder still earns a seat in Minnesota pike boats. Cast it through pads and cabbage, keep a steady wobble, and tip it with a trailer if the fish want a little more meal. Gold 3/4 is the listing we can actually buy today.

Storm
Pre-rigged soft shad with holographic flash and that WildEye stare that looks slightly judgmental. Cast it along weed edges and riprap when Minnesota bass want a baitfish without the drama of live bait.

Clam
Minnesota ice-house tungsten with a flat tie-eye that puts the hook where soft-mouthed crappies keep their secrets. Small, dense, and weirdly charming in Wonderbread paint.

Minnow silhouette with spoon flash, built to slide through greenery without a speech. Firetiger is the loud outfit for stained summer water when pike are parked in the salad.

Usual suspects: Walleye, Northern pike, Largemouth bass, Bluegill, Black crappie, Panfish
Floyd Lake is the one Detroit Lakes calls Big Floyd, like the lake has a nickname and a tab at the bait shop. It sits in Becker County, about 1,178 acres, 34 feet at the deepest, with town close enough that “I’ll be right back” is still a lie but a shorter one. (Minnesota DNR LakeFinder; Pelican River Watershed District)
Usual suspects are walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, and the rest of the panfish committee. This page will not invent a weedline or a water temperature so you can look busy in the driveway. The DNR strip above is the book. If somebody sends a real note, it belongs in Reports.
What put Floyd in the conversation this year was the sky. On July 6, 2026, an EF-2 tornado hit the west shore. Pelican River Watershed District staff and volunteers have been scuba-cleaning shingles and glass out of the lake into the fall, because a swim zone full of roofing is a strange way to start a cast. We wrote that one up: neighbors put on snorkels. The papers and the district’s cleanup page are the record. (PRWD Big Floyd 2026; Lakes Area Radio; InForum; Detroit Lakes Tribune)
We are watching the calendar. Nothing on the books for this water that we can stand behind. When a real lake day shows up, it will land here — not a daydream with a date slapped on it. See all of Events.
